Dream big: Could Miami make the playoffs?
Call me crazy, a homer, stupidly optimistic, or simply a believer. Miami has a shot at making the playoffs.
Perhaps I’m blinded by the many positives I’ve seen the past several weeks: Tannehill getting better, a passing attack with potential, and an opportunistic defense that showed they could get a critical stop when they needed one. Miami has played well in their defeats, literally just a play away from winning in several of their losses.
One could argue that the last several outings were against sub-par opponents. But if you look at the remaining schedule, it isn’t exactly chock full of heavy weights.
This week the Dolphins get the 3-2 Rams with the 29th ranked offense and 14th ranked defense. St. Louis’s 30th ranked passing attack got worse this past week when they lost receiver Danny Amendola to a broken collarbone. I’m not counting my chickens yet, but it isn’t unrealistic for Miami to be 3-3 headed into the week 7 bye. After the bye, Miami’s remaining schedule looks like this:
- @Jets
- @Colts
- Titans
- @Bills
- Seahawks
- Patriots
- @49ers
- Jaguars
- Bills
- @Patriots
The Patriots and the Niners are theonlytwo powerhouse teams on the schedule. While we can hardly count on Miami to beat anyone until provenotherwise, lookingatthe schedule it is certainly possible for Miami to achieve a surprising 10-6 season which should be good enough for a wild card berth given the state of the AFC this year.A lot can change in the coming weeks, but if Philbin’s plan continues to unfold the way it has I am excited to consider the possibility that we may be chasing a surprising playoff berth!Join us on our message board and share your thoughts!! My thoughts exactly. Finally this team seems poised for the big picture, and not simply another “quick fix” year that ends up going no where.
I echo the second posters sentiments. I don’t really think they will make the playoffs this year, but an 8-8 record or better would be huge. I enjoy watching the games again and think the Phins are going in the right direction.
The Dolphins finally have a good coaching staff, and a QB who is talented enough to make all the throws. I don’t know if they will make the playoffs this year, but I actually enjoy watching their games again. The future has a lot of potential.
