Fins Top 5 Draft Board
I know what you’re thinking.
Why a 2013 NFL Draft article NOW when the Dolphins are a win away from being right back in playoff contention?
Here’s why. The Dolphins are one (likely) loss away to the Pats away from being 5-7 heading into Week 14, which will put them as low as #9 in the NFL Draft selection order heading into the final 4 games.
1) DE Jarvis Jones, Georgia* (6-3, 245)
NFL Comparison: Von Miller, Broncos
Kiper Ranking: #1
Rang Ranking: #3
Scouting Report: Could have a Von Miller/Aldon Smith-like impact as a rookie… scheme flexible player who will pressure the QB in 4-3 and 3-4 schemes… a little on the thin side, but has the innate instincts and speed to make up for it… SEC dominator in 2011-2012, with 24 sacks, 8 FF’s off the edge.
Dolphins Fit: Forget it. He won’t get out of the Top-5.
Tomorrow: 4:00pm ET vs. #2 Alabama on CBS.
2) DT Star Latouleli, Utah (6-4. 320)
NFL Comparison: Haloti Ngata (Ravens)
Kiper Ranking: #3
Rang Ranking: #2
Scouting Report: Rare… a Haloti Ngata- type with the ability to disrupt defensive game plans for 10+ years.. can play NT or DE in a 3-4 alignment because of size/strength combination… the team that drafts might even be able to use 2-man fronts in certain situation, just as the Packers have done with B.J., Raji.
DolphinsFit: Forget it. He won’t get out of the Top-5.
Tomorrow: Not Playing until Bowl Week.
3) DE Damontre Moore, Texas A&M* (6-4, 255)
NFL Comparison: DeMarcus Ware (Cowboys)
Kiper Ranking: #4
Rang Ranking: #8
Scouting Report: Eerily similar to DeMarcus Ware in all areas: size, length, bend, burst, number, and scheme-flexiblility…12.5 sacks and 20 TFL in A&M’s first year in the SEC.
Dolphins Fit: Might be a better fit as a 3-4 OLB, but has more than enough pass rush size and pass-rush ability to be an impact player opposite Cameron Wake. Very doubtful he gets out of the top 7 picks.
Tomorrow: Not Playing until Bowl Week.
4) DE Bjoern Werner, Florida St* (6-4, 265)
NFL Comparison: Chris Long (Rams)
Kiper Ranking: #7
Rang Ranking: #10
Scouting Report: Not quite the athlete Jones and Moore are, but carries a certain mestique.. 13 sacks and 18 TFL and 7 passes defended, according to Dane Brugler of NFLDraftScout.com… not the greatest athlete, but rare intensity and violent hands allows him to get to the QB often.
Dolphins Fit: Perfect fit in Kevin Coyle’s 4-3 Defense. Werner would allow the Dolphins to move Jared Odrick inside to DT to replace Randy Starks, who is likely to test free agency after the season.
Tomorrow: 7:00pm ET @ Georgia Tech on ESPN.
5) DE Barkevious Mingo, LSU* (6-5, 250)
NFL Comparison: Aldon Smith (49ers)
Kiper Ranking: #6
Rang Ranking: #12
Scouting Report: In the midst of a disappointing junior year, but still a great athlete… has been compared to Jevon Kearse by many.. long arms, great length, and too good of an athlete to not make an impact.
Dolphins Fit: Mingo would likely be a 3rd-Down pass rusher as a rookie while evolving into a full-time player. A combo of Wake and Mingo would bring a lot of heat off the edge.
Tomorrow: Not Playing until Bowl Week.

I agree with your second sentence. Way too early to be thinking about draft picks. I would rather watch the remaining games hopeful that the Phins can string together some upsets and wins.
Id like to see CB,DE,LB. I also hope we kick Odrick inside like you said.
We really need more at CB at LB though
why have a top 5 where 3 of the 5 you rate as fat chance?
I wouldn’t be against moving up to draft Star or a shutdown cb. I think it would be mistake to use a top 10 pick on a wr though
