Fins’ Weekend Update
With the flurry of Fin related news, notes, and rumors, I thought I’d take a bit and give you the “Readers’ Digest version of this weekend’s latest info. “All the rumors fit to print!”
–Multiple reports have RB Reggie Bush NOT returning to Miami. Likely destinations include Detroit, San Diego, and Arizona. I liked Bush a lot during his stint in Miami. But the coaching staff obviously feels that RB Lamar Miller and Daniel Thomas are ready to step up.
In addition, the newest internet rumor is that Miami is now interested in RB Rashard Mendenhall. However, I have not seen this posted anywhere but on message boards citing a member the NFL.com. So for the moment, I do not put a lot of stock into it.
–The Fins interest in WR Mike Wallace is apparently very real. Multiple sources say that Miami is in the driver’s seat to acquire the speedy receiver’s services. But like so many times over the last few years, Miami has been left at the alter by those they hotly pursued. So while I have my fingers crossed, I’m still a bit nervous about all of this.
–Should the Fins miss out on Wallace, they are also apparently interested in Rams receiver Brandon Gibson. The talks are reported to be serious.
–ThePats are rumored to be interested in Wallace as well. And they do need some receiver help. But, New England rarely does a cannon ball into the deep end of the free-agent pool. It’s not unprecedented (e.g., Adalius Thomas), but it’s not common. Unless they can persuade Wallace to take less than he’ll be offered elsewhere, signing Wallace would be an unlikely expenditure of the cap space Tom Brady’s new deal helped create.
–With the release of RT Eric Winston by the Chiefs, there has been rampant specualtion that the Fins may once again be interested in his services. (Last year Miami was outbid by the Chiefs for a 4 year deal worth $22 million.) Well, per NFL Draft Insider tweet,
Dolphins considering multi-year offer to O-Tackle Eric Winston. Only fit for ZBS in Tackle FA Group. Rosenhaus wants 3-4 years at 7 M per. — NFL_Draft_Insider (@NFLDraftBites) March 9, 2013
So Winston is a year older, cut after one year by the Chiefs, and wants a huge pay increase? Sorry Rosenhaus, but that ‘aint gonna happen. Still, I could see the Fins giving him some serious consideration. Just not at $7 mil per.
–Sean Smith is all but done in Miami. His friend and “man-child” Vontae Davis let the cat out of the bag that the Chiefs were very interested in Smith. But since then, Kansas City has signed free agent Dunta Robinson to a 3 year deal. So their interest in Smith has waned. But apparently, the Pats have interest in Smith, as do the Cardinals and Bucs.
