What did you think of the rest of the AFC East’s drafts? I think we killed them! –Phinphanphorlife
A. – Here is some of what Max Lukas had to say about the rest of the AFC East’s drafts. Read it here.
Some analysts such as John Clayton and Jason Cole rated the Fins as having one of the best draft’s in the NFL. Others, such as Mel Kiper Jr. gave the Fins a B-. There was some discussion about it on our message board.
We will have more post draft coverage not just for the Fins, but also the AFC East in the coming days!
Top 100 NFL players and Cam Wake was only 89th? What BS!! –RussGuss
Can you believe Cameron (Wake) was only 89th on that list? –Chad
Wake only 89? More media bias against the Dolphins! –Fred, Conn.
A. – The list is completely subjective. Hell, I don’t think Wake even made the list at all last year. So I don’t pay attention to it.
As for media b Continue reading
Future Fins to Watch – Part II
The Dolphins nearly traded back up into the 1st round to select USC DE Nick Perry to pair with Cameron Wake in Kevin Coyle’s 4-3 Defense. At least that was the word on the street in late April.
5 of the top 14 players on Mel Kiper’s “Big Board” are pass-rushing DE’s. And that is a-OK with me.
DE Cameron Wake is having a Pro Bowl year with 9.5 sacks, but more is needed from the other side to generate a consistent pass-rush. Adding a pass-rush threat would allow the Dolphins to move Jared Odrick inside to DT next to Paul Soliai, thus allowing Randy Starks to test free agency.
Keep an eye on these 3 players today. And follow me on twitter @BrianCat13
1) DE Bjoern Werner, Florida St* (6’4 – 256)
Number: #95
Game: Noon ET @ Maryland on ESPNU
Kiper Ranking: #10
NFL Comparison: Chris Long, Rams
Analysis: German-born product is a violent edge-rusher with a unique build… extremely long arms for his size.. has a variety of pass-rush moves in his repetoit.
Dolphin Watch: His workouts will be crucial. If he runs a 4.55/40, he’ll be a Top-10 pick and p Continue reading
Dolphins dominate Jets 30-9

S Jimmy Wilson sets the tone early, blocking this punt which DE Olivier Vernon turned into a TD. Photo courtesy Dolphins.com
Several weeks ago the Dolphins lost to the Jets after a pair of missed field goals, once during regulation and again in overtime. Since then these two teams have gone opposite directions, with the Dolphins improving and the Jets imploding. And yet, when the teams took the field today, Dolphin fans weren’t particularly optimistic.
When the final whistle blew, the Dolphins left for the airport with a 30-9 victory, a win more dominating than the score or the stat sheet suggest.
The discussion must start with the oh-so-Special Teams. Olivier Vernon had a monster performance, scoring a TD off of a Jimmy Wilson-blocked punt and sealing the first half shut out by blocking field goal attempt. In the second half, with the Jets trying to get something going, rookie Marcus Thigpen returned a punt 57 yards. Oh yea, Dan Carpenter was 3 for 3 on field goal attempts. Last but not least, didI Continue reading
Bush helps Fins pound Raiders
After struggling some in the first half, Reggie Bush put on a show in the third quarter, rushing for 2 TDs and putting the Fins in the lead for good. Bush finished the game with 172 yards and 2 TDs on 27 carries as the Fins put away Oakland 35-13. This is the first home opener win for Miami in 6 years.
Bright Spots – Obviously a game ball for Reggie Bush, who took this team on his back and carried them to victory.
In addition, the Tannehill to Hartline combo lit up the Raiders for 9 receptions and 111 yards. Hartline played exceptionally well. Ryan Tannehill played well too, throwing for 200 yards and his first TD pass. Considering the tremendous pass rush that Tannehill faced, I thought he played very well.
The Fins rushing defense played very well again, as the Raider’s ground game only averaged 1.6 yards per carry and never crossed the goalline. They also stopped the Raiders on 11 outof Continue reading
Fins lose to Falcons in preseason
After two dismal preseason performances, the Fins needed to rebound and have a great showing in the dress rehearsal against the Falcons. Despite the score, some Dolphins did look solid.
Thumbs up -
Cameron Wake had two sacks against the Falcons starters, and looked like he was already in mid season form. To be honest, I was impressed with the first team defense overall. They played very well, especially on third down, and kept the Falcons 1st team offense (a playoff team year) out of the endzone.
Ryan Tannehill’s stats look terrible. But let’s face it, outside of Devone Bess, Tannehill had no help. There were multiple dropped passes, including a TD pass to Anothny Fasano, and Jonathon Martin and Jake Long did not help matters either. They allowed sacks and pressures on the rookie QB for most of the evening.
But Ryan has “It” in my opinion. He kept his poise and played through the adversity. He showed he is dangerous on the run. And he showed what he can do when he get Continue reading
