So the results of this lengthy investigation are in. (144 pages) In short, it paints a clear picture that Incognito, Jerry, and Pouncey were guilty of harassing Jonathon Martin, other offensive lineman, and an Assistant Trainer.
I have a lot of questions, but in no way do I want to portray that I am not sympathetic to Martin’s dilemma. He clearly was harassed, abused, and mistreated.
A few questions come to me immediately.
- Why is there no support system in place?
- Why did no players see this was tormenting him?
- Why did Martin never approach Joe Philbin?
I can’t answer the first two, but I can assume he feared retaliation from the players had he spoken to the coach. It is clear he was/is a tormented man. The following text messages are taken directly from the report which you can view at nfldolphinsreport.com
One of the most telling communications was between Martin and his mother on April 22nd. (Condensed for space)
I figured out a major source of my anxiety. I’m a push over, a people pleaser. I avoidconfrontation whenever I can, I always want everyone to like me. I let Continue reading
The current Dolphins organization is a rudderless mess!
–If Stephen Ross wants to fire somebody, he should start by firing himself. I am not saying he should sell the team (that’s unrealistic) but Ross shouldn’t have control over what goes on in this organization. Ross rarely spends any time in Miami so he has no REAL idea of what the Miami Dolphins team is doing. Ross needs to hire somebody (QUALIFIED) to be the head of all football operations. NOT his ‘buddy’ Carl Petersen but NOT somebody who knows nothing about football either. Ross needs eyes/ears IN MIAMI that the GM and coach can report to because, right now, there doesn’t seem to be a ‘master plan’.
–Putting the competency/effectiveness of Ireland and Philbin aside (more on their individual failures in a moment) this year’s Miami Dolphins is the PERFECT example of why you don’t keep the prior GM and hire a new coach. Ireland’s player acquisitions OFF the field didn’t seem to mesh AT ALL with what Philbin was trying to do ON thefield.Trading up to #3 to select Dion Jordan withnospot Continue reading
In a Superbowl radio interview today, former Dolphin LB Channing Crowder said that he plans to return to playing in the NFL. Just don’t expect him to come back to Miami.
The 28 year old sat out last season but feels fully healed and ready to play. He is quoted as saying….
“I wouldn’t go on a team with [Dolphins G.M.] Jeff Ireland,” said Crowder. “I’m not very confident in him. He doesn’t know what he’s doing in my opinion. He’s real disrespectful. He doesn’t know how to deal with people.”

In other news, the Dolphins plan to hire Jim Turner as their offensive line coach. Turner resigned his post with Texas Tech to take the Miami job. Turner was the OL coach for Mike Sherman at Texas A&M. Last year, Texas A&M’s offensive line gave up just 8 sacks all season, the lowest in Division 1A college football.
