What’s the status of signing our draft picks?
As an avid Dolfan I jump on the internet several times a day to a variety of websites, eagerly consuming whatever news I can find on the Dolphins and the rest of the NFL. Every day I read news about other teams signing their draft picks, with at least six teams already having signed all of their draft picks.
Am I the only one who wants to know if the Dolphins have signed *any* of their draft picks?
I’ve seen some undrafted free agent signings (such as OT Andrew McDonald) as well as DE Cameron Wake’s contract extension… but I don’t recall seeing a single announcement about Miami signing any of the draft picks. With the new CBA and pool of money for rookie contracts this should be a slam dunk, so what’s up? I’m filled with questions:
Is Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland trying to maximize how much money he has for undrafted rookie free agents? I’m not sure if those contracts count against the rookie pool or not, but if so I can understand why Miami might take this approach.
Arediscussionswith quarterback Ryan Tannehill affecting or stalling negotiations with Miami’s lower draft picks? When Carolina signed linebacker LukeKuechly(the9thpick in the draft – Tannehill was 8th) to a fully guaranteed four-year, $12.58 million contract, I worried about how that might affect Ireland’s negotiations with Tannehill.While I don’t expect any of the rookies to hold out, I do think that Miami should get them signed with Organized Team Activites (OTAs) and minicamps looming – otherwise they might not participate for fear of being injured and losing money.Why isn’t there more news about this? Are the reporters not asking the question? Maybe Miami has signed some guys and they just haven’t announced it yet?
Please note: I’m not complaining or whining. I’m just curious – no, wait – I’m hungry for news.

They have signed a few of the lower round pics but as far as I know they still have several unsigned. Like you I have not seen much news on this. I would like to know what is taking so long.
